Bossard AG, CH-Zug
The Bossard Group is a global group of companies that is run by members of the founding family, now represented by the seventh generation. The holding company, Bossard Holding AG, has its headquarters in Zug, Switzerland, and is quoted on the Swiss stock exchange. Bossard has around 1400 employees, engaged in the global procurement and sale of every type of fastening element. Bossard also provides engineering and logistical services associated with these products.
Requirements
Since the space available in the logistics centre in Zug is no longer adequate, the Bossard Group is planning to nearly double its storage capacity and improve its ability to supply its customers. This will result in future storage capacity for 430’000 small parts and roughly 18’000 pallets.
Logistics solution
Gilgen Logistics AG was commissioned to extend the conveying system for trays. Additional workstations were created in the good inwards, technical inspection and batching areas, while the entire goods outwards area were renovated and expanded. Ten automatic stacker cranes were newly installed to increase the handling efficiency within the warehouse and reduce the wait times at the order picking stations.
The units are equipped with a special load-carrying mechanism which makes it possible to insert or remove a maximum of ten cartons. The warehouse has room for about 430’000 items and will be one of the country's largest once the project is completed.
By deploying the latest technology, it was possible to optimise the flow of goods and augment the throughput volume.
