Biocenter at the University of Basel
In circulationThe Biozentrum at the University of Basel is one of the world’s leading interdisciplinary institutes for the life sciences. Its focus is on basic molecular and biomedical research and teaching. International and interdisciplinary research groups investigate how molecules and cells give rise to life—from the atomic level to the organism. Founded in 1971, the Biozentrum has been the birthplace of numerous groundbreaking discoveries in biology and medicine and has produced several Nobel laureates.

Logistics Solution
A large portion of the internal material transport at the Biozentrum is handled by an unmanned material handling system. At the heart of the vertical logistics system is a central circulating conveyor (paternoster) that connects all levels of the building. The system is supplemented by conveyor belts, additional elevators, and hoists that serve various functions in specific areas.
