Sustainability
Our commitment
We are aware of our responsibilities towards the environment and society. That’s why it is not just the economic aspects of our business activities that are important to us, but also the ecological and social ones. Our actions are guided by societal and environmental criteria, with a real focus on long-term sustainability. To this end, we have firmly embedded a sustainability concept into our corporate values.
Thomas Herren, CFO & Responsible for sustainability at Gilgen Logistics
3-pillar model based on UN standards
Our sustainability concept is built on three key pillars
Products & Services, People & Well-being, and Climate Change & Resource Consumption. Each area aligns with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which have also been adopted by the Swiss government as part of its 2030 sustainability strategy. Our sustainability concept covers the six SDGs that are most relevant to us, but we also adhere to SDG 16 as a matter of course: ‘Promote peaceful and inclusive societies for sustainable development, provide access to justice for all and build effective, accountable and inclusive institutions at all levels.’
This approach benefits not only our company, but also our customers (e.g. through energy-efficient solutions) and – just as importantly – the environment and society as a whole. To implement our sustainability concept, we have developed a comprehensive action plan.

Products & Services
On the basis of our expertise, we offer integrated system solutions and sustainable logistics concepts. With our systems and services, we help our customers to move, store and pick goods in an efficient and resource-friendly manner. Our finely tuned, durable and energy-efficient systems ensure sustainable operations. In particular, our system solutions in the field of returns logistics make a significant contribution to an efficient circular economy.
People & Well-being
We are convinced that entrepreneurial success is only possible with motivated and competent employees. This is why we offer our staff an attractive and safe working environment that is characterised by development opportunities, appreciation, equal rights and freedom from discrimination. As an employer, we fulfil our responsibility towards society and aim to avoid accidents, prevent harm to health and ensure that our occupational health and safety practices comply with the relevant laws at all times.

Climate change and resource consumption
Through our products and services, as well as indirectly through our upstream supply chains, we have an impact on the climate and contribute to global resource consumption. We therefore strive to use resources efficiently and sustainably in all of our business activities. Particularly in the area of energy consumption, we aim to maximise efficiency and conserve resources. We also want to reduce our direct and indirect carbon emissions and thereby play our own part in combating global warming.
Code of Conduct for suppliers
Our ethical principles apply not only to our own working environment, but also to our international supply chains. That’s why we have established a Code of Conduct for the suppliers we work with. In doing so, we aim to promote sustainability aspects, reduce risks within the supply chain, and demonstrate to our customers that we are committed to responsible business practices.
